Hand Sanitizer

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, essential workers, community and business leaders are in great need of hand sanitizer and other required personal protective equipment to ensure the health and safety of Michigan’s workforce and its communities.

Goodwill’s Green Works (GGW) is uniquely positioned to rapidly address this need and provide a quick and reliable solution. This opportunity continues to enhance the mission of GGW, meet the demand of Southeastern Michigan’s workforce for a long-term solution, and generate a new revenue stream for the organization, critical to the recovery and legacy of Goodwill Detroit.

GGW has shifted it operations to meet the needs of its major customer, DTE Energy. In response to the COVID-19 crisis, GGW is now meeting market demands of DTE Energy by bottling and distributing hand sanitizer to DTE’s front-line workforce, considered essential employees.

The process consists of labeling, pumping, filling, capping and distributing bottles of hand sanitizer. GGW fulfilled an order of 75,000 units for DTE Energy. Additionally, GGW procured medical masks and sterile gloves to further its production into packaging these with the hand sanitizer to assemble full PPE kits.

Several of GGW’s vendors and prospective clients are actively reaching out to the community with the goal of ensuring residents in communities they provide services to have access to PPE. 3,000 PPE kits were distributed to ______ and 3,000 more are being distributed in conjunction with food distribution efforts in the North End neighborhood. GGW is seeking additional partnerships to continue producing and distributing PPE kits to vulnerable populations.
